Hugh Carty qualified as a solicitor in 1975, and the following year established Kent Carty Solicitors with his brother John. He is currently Managing Partner and specialises in Company Law, Litigation, Insurance, Professional and Medical Negligence, Defamation, Personal Injury and Mediation.
He received a BCL in 1968 from UCD and qualified as a barrister in 1970. He worked in Marketing and administration in industry between 1970 and 1972
Hugh is also a CEDR (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution) Accredited Mediator.

John Carty graduated from UCD where he was awarded a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL). He qualified as a Solicitor in 1972 and co-founded Kent Carty Solicitors with his brother Hugh in 1976.
He has practiced extensively in all areas of law but principally in the areas of Commercial and Residential Property, Commercial Litigation, Medical and Professional Negligence and Personal Injury claims arising from road traffic accidents and accidents at work. He works extensively with clients to ensure cases are dealt with in the most efficient and cost effective manner.
John is a CEDR Accredited Mediator and a strong advocate of Mediation as a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Gavan Carty is an Honours Law Graduate from Trinity College in Dublin. He heads up the Commercial Law Department in Kent Carty, Solicitors and specialises in Insurance Law – particularly Financial Lines and Professional Indemnity, Commercial Property and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Gavan has been a Partner in the firm since 1999 and prior to that had also worked in a legal practice in France and with the European Commission in Brussels.
Gavan has a particular interest in alternative dispute resolution and holds a Diploma in Arbitration from UCD and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Gavan also holds a diploma in Construction Law from Trinity College Dublin.
Gavan is also a CEDR accredited Mediator and a firm advocate of Mediation as an alternative and cost efficient method of dispute resolution.

Shane joined Kent Carty in 1999.

Jim O'Higgins is a Consultant to the Firm with expertise in many different areas, now practicing primarily in the areas of Conveyancing, Land Law, Probate, Estate Planning and Family Law.
Jim joined Kent Carty in 2003.
He received a BCL degree from UCD and holds an LLB Degree and a Diploma in European Law. Jim qualified as a Solicitor in 1967.
He is also a CEDR Accredited Mediator.

Killian Carty is an Honours law graduate from the University of Wales. Having completed his traineeship with Kent Carty he was admitted onto the Rolls of Solicitors in 2006, and became a Partner in Kent Carty in 2009.
His principle areas of practice include advising in Property Disputes (including Private and Public Rights of Way, Breach of Covenants in Lease Agreements), Breach of Contract (including Specific Performance of Contacts), Defamation, Medical and Professional Negligence and Personal Injury claims arising from road traffic accidents and accidents at work.
Killian is also an Accredited Mediator and a strong advocate of Mediation as a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Cormac is an honours law graduate from UCD and qualified as a Solicitor in 2006 after completing his traineeship with Kent Carty. Cormac spent 3 years working in the Banking and Financial Services Group of Matheson Ormsby Prentice solicitors until he re-joined Kent Carty in October 2009. Cormac has considerable experience in advising both lenders and borrowers on all aspects of Irish Banking Law with particular reference to Property Finance, Acquisition Finance, Project and Construction Finance and general Corporate Finance.
He has worked on transactions such as the 2007 acquisition by British Private-Equity house CapVest Limited of a stake in Mater Private Healthcare, the 2007/2008 Bank of Scotland funding with Manor Park Homebuilders Limited and the 2009 PPP Schools Project on behalf of Bank of Ireland, and continues to work in related areas.
Cormac is also significantly experienced in the following areas of law: Company and Commercial law, Commercial Litigation and Commercial Conveyancing.
Cormac also holds an honours post graduate Higher Diploma in Business Studies and Information Technology from the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School.

Gerard Healy is a consultant actuary to Kent Carty advising in the areas of Finance, Insurance, Corporate Governance and Regulatory Affairs.
He has 25 years experience as chief executive of major insurance companies both in Ireland and the United Kingdom. He has also been chairman or non-executive director of financial companies in Ireland, UK, France and South Africa. He has been a member of Board audit and risk sub-committees and has a particular interest in the role of the non-executive director in corporate governance.
He is an actuary being a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in the UK and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. He is also a former President of the Irish Insurance Federation, a former Vice-President of the European Insurance Association (CEA), a former Executive Committee member of Financial Services Ireland and has been a member of the Financial Services Council of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
He holds first class honours degrees in mathematics and law, a masters degree in mathematics from Cambridge University and a masters degree in business administration.

Catherine is a Solicitor in the firm practising in the area of Civil Litigation with particular emphasis on Insurance Defence Litigation. She acts for Loss Adjusters and Insurance Companies including many Lloyds Syndicates.
Catherine has extensive experience in defending Hotels, Restaurants, Pubs, Concert Venues, Concert Organisers and Security Companies. She also regularly acts in Defamation and Product Liability cases. She has represented clients at a number of Tribunals of Inquiry. Catherine has experience in Medical Defence Litigation having worked with one of Ireland’s leading Medical Negligence firms. A skilled advocate she is also a keen negotiator. She tutors in the area of Medical Negligence and Civil Litigation at the Law Society of Ireland. Catherine is a fluent Italian speaker, having studied at the Universita di Verona.
